He is grateful for any facts on correlation or criticisms; he asks Maw to explain further the contracted corolla of the Pelargonium with the narrow leaves; Maw’s writing on correlated changes in structure at birth is well put, but he is less interested in them, as inheritance of the variation may easily be stopped by the death of the progeny in cases of shorter gestation, leading to a bond of apparent correlation, whereas the petals and leaves of the Pelargonium are homologous early on and thus will be similarly affected by an unknown cause; cases of old or injured females assuming male attributes are even more curious than the effects of castration on males
