Watercolour and gouache on paper of Seckle Pear attributed to Elizabeth McMurtie from Coxe's Drawings of American Apples, page 12,1818. Recto: TC: handwritten in graphite pnecil: '20'; LC: Handwritten in black ink: 'Seckle Pear October 6th 1818'. Seckle Pear is a variety of Pyrus communis. This artwork does not appear to have been part of original set of 12, as it is not present on index list of drawings at the front of the album, and the folio is not numbered. There is a description of this variety in 'A View of the Cultivation of Fruit Trees, and the Management of Orchards and Cider' by William Coxe, 1817
