Watercolour and gouache on paper of Washington Pear, attributed to Elizabeth McMurtie from Coxe's Drawings of American Apples, page 12, c.1824. Recto: TC: Handwritten in black ink: '41 Washington Pear'; LR: Handwritten in black ink: 'The Washington Pear presented by William Coxe Esq. F.M.H.S February 3rd 1824'. This artwork does not appear to have been part of original set of 12, as it is not present on index list of drawings at the front of the album, and the folio is not numbered. 'F.M.H.S' stands for Foreign Member of the Horticultural Society. William Coxe is listed as a 'F.M.H.S.' in RHS Council Minutes, 9 Jan 1919. There is a description of this variety in 'A View of the Cultivation of Fruit Trees, and the Management of Orchards and Cider' by William Coxe, 1817
