Scope & content
Written from Munstead Wood, Godalming, [Surrey]. Manuscript\r\nJekyll acknowledges the plans and descriptions; one of the plans will do to work with; she will make a fresh planting plan for the steps, woodshed and boundary area and recommends more Lawson’s cypress; she recommends Veronica traversii for backing the delphiniums, otherwise gold holly, Elaeagnus pungens ‘Gold Splash’, or Olearia haastii; she writes about possibilities for use of steps, dry walling and brick paving to ease the path down to the green terrace; she asks the precise extent of the proposed peony border; her peonies cost 1s 6d each for plants three times as strong as similarly priced specimens in the nurseries; she advises interplanting with irises; her irises cost 4s a dozen compared with 1s 6d each in the nurseries.
