He has written letters on 2 and 17 Jun and 19 Jul to Don in Trinidad; since he last wrote the box sent by Don from Sierra Leone on the Stockton and the box of bulbs from Accra [Ghana] have arrived safely; Don will be gratified to learn that his 'African collection' has been very well received and does credit to his judgement and diligence; Captain Sabine [Edward Sabine] has letters for Dr West [Stewart West, Scottish physician and botanist in Jamaica], who is in charge of the Botanic Gardens at Jamaica and will doubtless assist Don greatly; Jamaica abounds with air plants in August; Don's specimens of Lepidopterous insects have been examined by Mr Macleay [Alexander Macleay, Society committee member] who says there are some new and rare specimens amongst them; Don will have introductions at the various islands they will call at on the voyage home and he can make enquiries about the number of pineapples and acquire plants of the best; if by chance they go to New York [United States of America] Don will find there Mr Hogg [Thomas Hogg, nursery owner in New York], who was gardener for Mr Kent at Clapton, and he must see Mr Smith who also went to America; they will take Don to see the garden of Mr Prince [William Prince, nursery owner in New York], which is the best vinery in America; Prince is a corresponding member of the Society; Don's friends are all well other than Mr Dickson who he fears will not be alive when he returns [Dickson died 14 Aug 1822]; Don's brother is also well; the garden [the Society's garden at Chiswick] is going on rapidly
