George Don's accounts. There is an opened seal on the document The accounts cover travel and work essentials (including bedding, towels, crockery, tools), refreshments, services (including guides, help in carrying boxes, washing), travel (including coaches, boats, mules) and accommodation (including inns, mess on board)
'Money paid out for the Horticultural Society of London', 13 Nov 1821-17 Mar 1822, including 'rope for roping chest' 2s 6d, 'expenses through being left at Torbay' £5 6s 3d, 'paid for washing sheets and towels' 4s 6d, 'paid to a man for drying my paper on board when I left the ship' 10s, 'paid for the help of Kroomen [Krumen]' £1 10s [here the list includes 15 more entries]. Including notes between the entries: 'this accompt [account] I sent to my brother to be given to you' and 'The accompts need not be settled until I come home'
The reverse of the sheet includes notes: 'The money I have received from Captain Sabine [Edward Sabine, astronomer and geophysicist, brother of Joseph Sabine] is £13 or £14. The money I have paid out for myself for mending & buying shoes and washing and more is about £12'
