Colour printed engraved plate depicting two ['Romaine Hearts' lettuce] walking past a signpost with 'vinaigre' and 'huile' written on its posts. The signpost pours the dressings onto the heads of the passing lettuce. The artist uses anthropomorphism to depict the vegetables in a humorous style. The book plate bears the imprints 'A. Varin del. et. sc.' and 'G. de Gonet edit.'. From the book 'L'empire des légumes' by Eugène Nus. Inscription: '5' handwritten in pencil in the TR corner
