They are sorry that Maw has left France and hope he will return soon to join their pursuits at Luchon [Bagneres de Luchon, France]; he will carry out Maw’s instructions; Jean [unidentified] has telegraphed from Pierrefitte that there are no more flowers in the Val D’Arras [France]; he has replied that the guides must be deceiving Jean and that he must continue to collect with Celestine Posset [unidentified] or Pierre Pujo [unidentified]; the specimens Maw sent are magnificent; he asks Maw to enclose plates of the hybrids if he writes before Osborne leaves for Luchon on the 11th; he will stay with Jean until all is collected; he sends his sympathy for Maw’s situation [Maw’s father, John Hornby Maw, died on 28 Jun 1885; this may refer to his illness]
