He did not read Maw’s letter enquiring about Mr Allen [George Allen, student of Ruskin, founder of George Allen & Unwin, publishers] until today; he has sent word to Allen to head for Broseley tomorrow; Allen is an honest, conscientious and earnest man, and Maw will find him serviceable; he thanks Maw for his last present to him at the Geological Society; he had to leave early that evening but found the abstract of Maw’s paper provoking, and would have liked to hear the entirety of it
