Scope & content
Written from Brantwood, Coniston, Lancashire [later Cumbria]. Manuscript
He does not think Harrison Weir [Harrison William Weir, artist] is appropriate as he mostly draws animals, and in a claptrap manner; he asks to see the sketches and photographs that Maw proposes to use; he is not familiar with modern woodwork, but if he knows Maw’s exact requirements, he can get it into the proper channels; he has directed the packing and dispatch of the drawings today; he envies Maw’s crocus hunt in the Apennines [Italy], but he will not easily care for any big things; the little ‘pet’ Maw sent today has been put tenderly into water.
