Written from Brantwood, Coniston, Ambleside, on behalf of John Ruskin. Manuscript
He acknowledges receipt of Maw’s letter to Ruskin and the four tiles, three of which arrived unharmed; Ruskin has been seriously ill from overwork and is unable to attend to his correspondence; he thinks Ruskin will not approve of the tiles, as he dislikes a material being made to look like another; he remembers Maw’s beautiful plates of crocuses and is glad to hear the work is near completion; he has drawn many flowers from an artistic point of view; he admires the engraving of Maw’s house greatly, and would like to see it one day
