She leaves Castle Bromwich on Saturday [19 Aug], and fears that she will have no time to visit Maw, or see much in the one or two hours she would be able to spend with him; she could not stay the Sunday even if he were willing to have her, which he could not be as Mrs Maw [Frederica Mary Maw] is away; she asks for the train times from Castle Bromwich in case she could come for the day; when she admired Maw’s plaques to the Hookers she did not mean to beg, though she never refuses anything; she thinks it was Lady Hooker’s [Frances Harriet Hooker, late wife of J.D. Hooker] monument she saw, with Maw’s plaques and the wreath round; she did not look as Dr Hooker [Joseph Dalton Hooker, director of Royal Gardens, Kew] was nearby, and as it was not placed perhaps it was Mrs Hooker’s, but she admired the design and only looked at that; she offers edelweiss as she has plenty; they go on Tuesday [15 Aug] to Castle Bromwich.
