Scope & content
Written from Dangstein, Petersfield. Manuscript
She and her gardeners found today that the ‘oyster’ plants [a name used for various species] have rotted; they have some seedlings but they are too small to send yet; the darlingtonias [Darlingtonia californica], which she will send two of, are also very small and should be kept where they are for now; she would be happier if Maw were to collect the plants in person, and he could also then choose some more; she admires the art of china, and has seen some lovely specimens connected to Maw’s name; they are going away on the 12th until the 25th, but after that would love to see Maw, and invite him to stay the night; they would send to the station for him. Undated [1874; Nevill introduces her interest in china, of which Maw later sends her gifts; the letter reads as though written at an early stage in their plant exchanges]
