Dewar [Daniel Dewar, foreman of the herbaceous grounds at Kew] tells him that Maw offered a set of named croci for their collection; they have prepared a new bed for them with compartments twice as large as previously, and the edges raised a few inches above the ground so as to give a little shelter to the lower part of the stems, as grass would give them in nature; he is sorry that he missed Maw, but they are incredibly busy at Kew
