Hooker’s architect has sent him the proposals for the tiles of his house and he very much likes them; the porch is lovely, but the light-bordered tile is too good for the scullery and larder, for which the red and black are suitable; the bordered pattern would suit the passages perfectly; he thanks Maw again; Mr Waller [Fred Waller, architect] will send Maw the plan of the stables and attached cottage for their tiles, to be billed to Hooker; he asks how the Crocus book is going; he and Bentham [George Bentham, botanist] are working hard to finish ‘Genera Plantarum’, which has been a quarter of a century’s work; they have just left Bagshot; his wife is in Worcestershire, and he will join her on Saturday for three days to see the exhibition; he asks if Maw will visit to see the pottery and gives the address where they are staying; he would meet Maw on Monday or Tuesday; Mr White [Horace Philips White, British consul at Tangier, Morocco] has sent him some pretty Marocco [Morocco] photographs, including one of the huts where they spent two nights in the Atlas; Maw’s letter from the 27th just arrived; he will find out when the tiles will be wanted; the enamel labels have not yet arrived
