Letter from Jos. D. Hooker [Joseph Dalton Hooker] to George Maw

He is happy with Maw’s views on the plaques and such; Palgrave [Reginald Palgrave, potter, Hooker’s cousin, who designed memorial tablets for Hooker’s father and wife] was worried about the glaze, such that Hooker almost suggested leaving it unglazed; he is anxious to see the tablet in its place; he expects they will think it best to have both border and plaque of one colour, and both glazed; he supposes he may send Maw’s ‘ice views’ letter on to Dr Tyndall [John Tyndall, physicist], but wanted to check; Tyndall will be here on Friday with his fiancée; if Maw sends a postcard with ‘yes’ on it, he will give him the letter; it seems that Maw has got hold of a very curious fact[?] and knows how to handle it
