The Iris tingitana has flowered beautifully, both from roots he sent from Tangiers [Tangier, Morocco] and from the roots that Hay [?John Drummond Hay, British minister plentipotentiary to Morocco] sent over; he has figured it for the ‘Botanical Magazine’; Maw will get many nice things in the Maritime Alps, but they may not be suited to the damp British climate; he does not think much of Saxifraga florulenta, and asks if it has any attributes other than being rare and difficult to grow; he goes to Edinburgh on Wednesday night and returns in two days
