The Linaria appears to be Linaria heterophylla [Kickxia sagittata], but not that of Desfontaines [René Louiche Desfontaines, French botanist]; it is a native of the Canaries [Spain] and is a nice plant to figure in the ‘Botanical Magazine’; he will be glad to get the grand red orchid, and will take great care of it until Maw’s return; he hopes they are doing better with their herbaceous plants, and hopes Maw will visit when he passes; he has some moist, well-shaded peat beds where many plants are doing well; in the first weeks of July he goes to Auvergne [France] with Huxley [Thomas Henry Huxley, geologist] to ‘take an absolute rest’, but supposes he will end up collecting anyway; what a harvest Maw will get in Switzerland and Monte Baldo [Italy]; he supposes that this Linaria heterophylla, which is subsequent to that of Desfontaines, should take the name Linaria sagittata, as it is also known as Antirrhinum sagittatum
