Scope & content
Written from Kew. Manuscript
He asks if Maw received only one Iris bulb; he sent two large ones and one small one, which is recorded in the garden correspondence books; he sent a baby bulb to Max Leichtlin [Maximilian Leichtlin, horticulturist] at the same time, which was also recorded in the books; he is worried that the addresses were mixed up, and if so he will send Maw one of his large bulbs; Mr Smith [John Smith, curator at Kew] is ‘in a great way about it’ as he was very careful; Lynch [Richard Irwin Lynch] entered them in the books; the error must have been with the addresser of the parcels; he thanks Maw for his letter about Xiphium; Moggridge [Johann Traherne Moggridge, botanist] was there and pronounces it Convolvulus mauritanicus [Convolvulus sabatius]. Dated Saturday [?1871; an earlier listing stated the letter was ‘from 1871 packet’ and the subject matter matches letters written in Sep 1871]
