He thanks Maw for his letter; he has just had five good bulbs of Xiphium from Hay’s [John Drummond Hay, British minister resident to Morocco] garden and is sending Maw the second and third largest, and a baby; he has another baby Xiphium which he is sending to Max Leichtlin [Maximilian Leichtlin, horticulturist]; Ball [John Ball, botanist] is home, at 24 St George’s Road, Eccleston Square, [London] SW; Murchison has had another attack of paralysis; he hopes to be ready for Maw’s journal notes in a fortnight; meanwhile he is overwhelmed with official business
