He thanks Maw for the cheque; Maw should find the details of payments from Ball [John Ball, botanist] to Hooker on Maw’s account in the paper Hooker sent; it should be all right but he will check when Ball returns; the only discrepancy he noticed was that Maw overpaid him; he will send 200 names for Maw to do in Parian ware [a type of biscuit porcelain imitating marble] with iron shanks, like the Aster labels, and asks if Maw remembers the price per dozen or hundred; he will apply to Mr Rogers [Freeman Rogers, who provided translations of Moorish fables for Hooker’s eventual book] as he finds writing the narrative [of their journey through Morocco] difficult and slow; he asks for the list of altitudes to be returned
