Written from Shelford, Cambridgeshire. Manuscript
He hopes that the Palestine bulbs will do well; the first effort of the gentlemen in Nazareth [Palestine, later Israel] is not encouraging; he has picked out the little Iris bulbs and hopes to rear them; he has also found cyclamens, narcissus, tulips and some other bulbs he does not know; he has sent a few light ones to H. Crewe [Henry Harpur Crewe, rector of Drayton Beauchamp, Buckinghamshire], which he thinks may all be dead, and will return the cyclamens to Besant [Walter Besant, secretary to the Palestine Exploration Fund]; twice these were sent off from Palestine before the Nazareth gentlemen knew of their wishes; they must not judge what he may do by this; he hopes Maw will travel safely on Wednesday and will have good weather; he suggests Maw does not come back until their ‘April and May winter’ is finally over, as they have hail, snow and biting winds. Dated 18 Mar, no year [1882; the subject matter matches letters written in Mar 1882]
