Lumps Fort is an 18th-century fort in Southsea, redeveloped under Palmerston in the 1860s, and demolished at the end of the First World War. The Council bought the site in 1932, and after the Second World War turned it into the Southsea Rose Garden, and the Southsea Model Village. The adjacent Canoe Lake had been part of local marshland, converted into a boating lake in 1886
