Sheringham was developed as a seaside resort town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the Burlington Hotel, seen in this card, being opened in 1899; the Grand Hotel (1898) seems to have been the catalyst for creating the esplanade gardens, but little else has been found about their history
