The Sheffield Botanical Gardens were designed 1833 and opened in 1836 by Robert Marnock, who became their first Superintendent, until he moved to London in 1839. In the late 19th century the Sheffield Town Trust took over the ownership of the Gardens, and since 1951 they have been managed by the local authority
