Sepia-tinted postcard showing a view of the bandstand in the parade gardens in Eastbourne. The seafront of Eastbourne was re-landscaped in 1877 with three pedestrian levels or parades (Marine, Royal, and Grand), and from the 1880s an extensive section became known for its carpet-bedding as the Carpet Gardens. The first bandstand was built in 1893, and replaced by the Art Deco Bandstand in 1935
