Ink: Dear Hill / Many thanks for letter having a nice time the weather as been quite good so glad you are having a nice time love to you both from Gerald & Hilda [address in Bournemouth supplied]. Wanstead Park was originally the grounds of Wanstead Manor, a celebrated garden with a lake, canal and groups of islands; Repton and Lewis Kennedy both prepared plans, some of which were acted on, but the then proprietor, William Wellesley Pole, who had married Catherine Tylney-Long, the estate heiress, dissipated the estate, and eventually demolished the house and sold its structure and contents. In 1882 the Corporation of the City of London acquired the site for use as public open space, added a golf course and other amenities
