Coloured postcard showing a view of the ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, with a portion of the gardens. Ink: [personal message] [address in Leeds supplied]. Kirkstall Abbey was founded in the mid-12th century, and was dissolved in 1539, becoming a private estate. The ruins were presented to the Council and opened to the public in 1895; the grounds were laid out as an ornamental garden by Edwin Cheal
