Williamson Park, Lancaster, is named after James Williamson Sr, who sponsored the development of the park, which was laid out by J. Maclean of Castle Donington in the 1870s and opened in 1881. The Ashton Memorial, designed by John Belcher, was erected in 1907-9, and the conservatory (now a butterfly house, and also by Belcher) was erected by Mackenzie & Moncur around 1909
