Coloured photographic postcard showing a view in Blake Gardens, Bridgwater, including a flower bed and the old arch. Ink: [personal message] [address in Lyndhurst supplied]. Blake Gardens were originally part of the grounds of Binsford House, purchased by the local corporation in 1898, and opened as a public garden in 1902; they were named after Admiral Blake, whose birthplace was Bridgwater; in 1924 a house believed to be Blake's birthplace was bought by the Council to serve as the Blake Museum; when the Blake Bridge and Broadway were opened in 1957, they cut Blake Gardens in half; the summerhouse in the gardens is a listed building, but the old arch was demolished in the late 20th century
