Bridlington Spa was opened in 1896, and made the town a prominent tourist venue in the early 20th century; the main waterfront street, the Prince's Parade, had been constructed in the 1860s (though it only took that name in 1888), and incorporated displays of ornamental bedding and carpet bedding, most famously a floral staircase and a floral clock
