Coloured photographic postcard showing a view of the fountain in the Old Steine Gardens, Brighton, illuminated at night. Ink: [personal message] [address in Hornsea supplied]. The Old Steine was originally a green space used by fishermen; it was for a period considered as part of the Brighton Pavilion grounds; the Victoria Fountain was installed in 1846 in the southern portion of the gardens, designed by Amon Wilds with sculpted dolphins by William Pepper; the statue of Sir John Cordy Burrows, by Edward Bowring Stephens, was unveiled in 1878
