Priory Park was originally called Middle Lane Pleasure Grounds, and opened in 1896 by the Borough of Hornsey; it was expanded in 1926 by the incorporation of an area of former wartime allotments at the western end. After the Second World War the site was proposed for housing, but that plan was abandoned and the park renamed Priory Park
