Alexandra Park was originally the grounds of the Alexandra Palace, which was opened in 1873, destroyed by fire two weeks later, rebuilt and reopened 1875. The grounds were designed by Alexander McKenzie, who acted as the initial superintendent of Alexandra Palace. In 1900 the Palace and its grounds were acquired by the London County Council, and designated a municipal park under the name Alexandra Park
