Coloured postcard of the Leg of Mutton Pond on Hampstead Heath. Hampstead Heath was a manorial holding from mediaeval times; latterly, the manorial rights were held by the Maryon Wilson family until the 1940s. The Metropolitan Board of Works managed the Heath as a municipal park from the 19th century, succeeded by the Greater London Council and finally the City of London
