Uncoloured postcard of a view of the suspension bridge over the Great Ouse, with a glimpse of the Bedford Embankment Gardens. William Barron was commissioned to design a park for Bedford in 1882, but it was not until Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887 that the plans were put into effect. The park, variously known as Bedford Park and Russell Park, was opened in 1888, and in the same year the iron suspension bridge was designed by John Webster. Barron was called back to design the Embankment Gardens in 1894
