There are currently 685 Narcissi herbarium specimens displayed on the RHS Digital Collections portal, with the number increasing each year as the RHS plant collecting team collect new varieties and cultivars. These specimens are viewed by scientists, researchers and breeders for a variety of reasons including to aid identification and help with breeding and naming queries. The RHS became International Registration Authority for the genus Narcissus in 1955, at the invitation of the 14th International Horticultural Congress. The main duties of the International Registration Authority are to register and publish cultivar and cultivar-group epithets and to maintain records of the origin, characteristics and history of each cultivar and cultivar-group. This benefits the grower, the plant retailers and the public by ensuring each name is unique within the Narcissus genus. This specimen of Narcissus 'Lennymore' is an example of a cultivar that was registered on the database by the breeder Brian S. Duncan in 1983 and includes information such as the seed and pollen parents.
In 1912, in commemoration of Peter Barr, the Trustees of the Peter Barr Memorial Fund presented to the RHS the 'Peter Barr Memorial Cup'. Each year the RHS Bulb Committee award the Cup to a recipient whose work supports and promotes the daffodil. Mr Duncan was awarded the Cup in 1987.
