He acknowledges receipt of a letter from Mazatlan [Mexico] dated 8 Apr; they still do not have the boxes dispatched from Tepic [Mexico] on 12 Mar; they are concerned that hostilities between the United States and Mexico may cut him off from his communications, if they do not prevent his arrival in California [United States of America]; he has written to Mr McLane 'the American minister in this country' [Louis McLane, minister of the United States in London] and encloses a copy of the letter and his reply [enclosures not present]; he hopes that U.S. officers will assist Hartweg; they have written to Messrs Barron & Co [Messrs Barron, Forbes & Co, merchants in Mexico]
