He acknowledges receipt of a letter dated 24 Jun relating to the journey to Vera Cruz [Veracruz, Mexico]; Captain Bleasdale [John Bleasdale] of the Porterica ('a fine vessel'), which will sail 1 Aug, agreed to 'take the gentleman for £40, and find him with every requisite during the voyage', providing a 'state room to himself, that is the best accommodation the ship affords' and meals etc; the only extra expense will be a bed at the cost of about £2; Captain Bleasdale appears to be 'somewhat of a botanist' himself, and is well known at Vera Cruz; if these terms are acceptable, 'the gentleman' should arrive at Liverpool some days before sailing and they will assist him in preparations
