Scope & content
He acknowledges receipt of a letter that morning; the bills should be drawn on Thomas Edgar, the treasurer of the 'H.S. of L. [Horticultural Society of London]', 21 Regent Street; he is uncertain of the amount of credit, as Hartweg's expenses and allowances are 'limited in some respects, yet in others they are necessarily left open', with regard to travelling and transporting the collections; they were thinking of sending a copy of his instructions to 'the house [merchants]' he has credit with and trusting their judgement; he is to purchase a mule for himself, and to be allowed the cost of a muleteer, and $50 a month for travelling expenses after Guanaxato [Guanajato, Mexico]; the Society will pay for the transport of his collections, and beyond these expenses he is to have £100 credit per year, but not exceeding £300 a year
