He has made up 'another little box' containing a bottle of lizards for Sir Everard Home [surgeon and anatomist] which he has sent with Captain Kelly [Benedictus Marwood Kelly, captain of the Stockton]; the largest is a chameleon, which he may cut up if he wishes as Edward has another specimen for him which is still alive; he asks that Joseph send his respects with the box; there are two small cancers [crabs] in the bottle, which Edward wishes to keep himself; Mr Clift [William Clift, curator and conservator at the Hunterian Museum] 'will have the goodness' to return them to Joseph; Smith [John Smith, Edward Sabine's assistant] has sent all the 'sufficiently dry' birds; the ducks are embarked and Captain Finlaison [William M. Finlaison, commander in the British Royal Navy] is 'very civil' about them; he doubts that the guinea fowls will be there in time for the Stockton's departure tomorrow morning; he asks Joseph to send 'a sharp fellow that knows a duck from a drake' on board the Stockton to receive the ducks, which are in a coop with those of Finlaison, who says Joseph may have them all, apart from one pair
