He refers to previous correspondence stating that the Horticultural Society would not object to 'their agent in China', Mr Fortune [Robert Fortune] being of service to Lord Derby; his gardener Jennings [John Jennings, gardener of the earl of Derby at Knowsley] wrote to Fortune, who responded positively; he encloses his response to Fortune [enclosure not present] and asks them to forward it; he enquires what remuneration would be suitable
