Sir Joseph Paxton (1803-1865) was a gardener, designer, and creator of the Crystal Palace. Paxton started his gardening career at the Horticultural Society of London's (now the RHS) Chiswick gardens. He went on to become the head gardener for the Duke of Devonshire, at Chatsworth, although he pursued a variety of outside interests throughout his career..
