William Paul (1822-1905) was a nurseryman in Cheshunt, then founded his own nursery, the Royal Nurseries in Waltham Cross. He specialised in roses, about which he wrote extensively. He was a founder member of the RHS Floral Committee and served on it from 1859 to 1873; he also served on the RHS Fruit & Vegetable Committee for many years. He was one of the original 60 recipients of the Victoria Medal of Honour. His nephew was the nurseryman George Paul..
