Edward Pohlmann (1825-1886) was born in Halifax and worked for the family business as a piano manufacturer. He eventually retired in order to concentrate on horticulture. He grew florists' flowers, and particularly auriculas. In 1886 he was one of the judges of the National Auricula Society's show at the RHS Garden Kensington..
