Black and white full-length seated portrait of Robert Warner. Pencil inscription on verso 'Robt. Warner'. Printed inscription on verso, 'F. Spalding, Tindal Square, Chelmsford. Copies of this Portrait may always be had.'. Robert Warner (1815-1896) was a bellfounder at his father's firm, John Warner and Sons in London. The firm cast bells for the Houses of Parliament, including for the Elizabeth Tower, known as Big Ben. He had a garden at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, and was well known as one of the first successful growers of orchids in the country. He was a Fellow of the Linnean society.
