Scope & content
Black and white engraved plate depicting Charlton House in Wiltshire. Charlton Park has been in the possession of the Earls of Suffolk since the late 16th century. Major alterations were made to the house in the 1770s for the 12th Earl of Suffolk. The interior was unfinished upon his death, and was not completed until the early 20th century. The house can be seen in the foreground of the engraving, with figures and dogs close to the front of the house. The book plate bears the imprints 'Published as the Act directs, Sepr. 1st. 1782 by W. Watts, Chelsea', 'T. Hearne del:' and 'W.Watts sculp'. From the book 'The seats of the nobility and gentry' by William Watts
