Calabash 'St Jacques' and 'oblong calabash'. The left hand image is an unfinished graphite pencil outline, the right hand image has been finished. The inscription beneath the painted oblong calabash translates as: 'Oblong Calabasse reduced to a quarter of its size / from the garden in Monsieur Carton de Wynezeele in Hooghe near Ypres ao. 1818 painted by Mr Seraphin Vermote [Seraphin Francois Vermote]. In 1816, he was commissioned by Charles Carton de Winnezeele to decorate his castle 't Hooghe in Zillebeke.
