Black and white photograph of the opening of the new glasshouses at RHS Garden Wisley. Chris D. Brickell is shown speaking in front of Government Minister Jim Prior, Lord Aberconway, Lady Aberconway and Mrs Brickell. Dimensions 11.3 (h) x 16.2 (w) cm. Christopher (Chris) D. Brickell was Director of RHS Garden Wisley 1969-1984 and RHS Director General 1985-1993. Charles Melville McLaren, 3rd Baron Aberconway (Lord Aberconway) was President of the RHS 1961-1984. Jim Prior was a Conservative MP from 1959-1987. Pencil inscription on verso, 'Env. 45, 2,OO'. Pen inscription on verso, 'The Director speaking after the opening of the new glasshouses. 21.7.70. (from a 35mm. colour transparency). Also present, RHS President Lord Aberconway, Lady Aberconway, Mrs Brickell and the Minister, Mr Prior'. Typed inscription on verso, 'Photo by R.P. Scase, The R.H.S. Gdn., Wisley, Surrey'. Chris D. Brickell worked at RHS Garden Wisley from 1958, and was RHS Director 1969-1984 and Director General 1985-1993.
