Black and white photograph of the Wilks Memorial Gates and the old Gatehouse, at RHS Garden Wisley. Mr Holloway can be seen standing outside the gatehouse. H. Holloway was gateman and seed distributor at RHS Garden Wisley, from 1947. The Wilks Memorial Gates were built in 1925 to honour William Wilks, RHS Secretary 1888-1920. Pencil inscription on verso, 'Env. 93, 2,E. Entrance gates and Mr Holloway in Hut'. Typed inscription with the photograph, 'The Entrance to the Garden, about 1947. Mr Holloway, the uniformed Gate Attendant, escorted all visitors into his 'lodge' so that they could sign the Visitors' Book.. H. Holloway was gateman and seed distributor at RHS Garden Wisley, from 1947. The Wilks Memorial Gates were built in 1925 to honour William Wilks, RHS Secretary 1888-1920
